Celibrities in support of Terri Schiavo

PINELLAS PARK (Roto Reuters) - A group of celebrities protested today outside of Hospice Woodside where Terri Schiavo is scheduled to be starved to death if no judicial or legislative intercession step in. Actors Sean Penn, Susan Sarandon, and Tim Robbins and many others held a press conference to decry the upcoming execution. Tim Robbins stated "I want to open the door, you know. It's, it's a very serious thing, you know, that is happening here. Killing people by court order and staving this one women to death definitely comes under the Constitution as "cruel and unusual punishment." Susan Sarandon added " What do people think about those in hospices that they are disposable human waste, good for nothing, sucking up tax dollars? Why are we making a hospice a death chamber? Shouldn't this be a place for rehabilitation, for hope that she and others may one day return to society? Later Sean Penn noted "First they go after Jude Law and now they want to kill this innocent women by starvation? This society is very troubling to me, I think we should organize and get some human shields around the hospice to prevent any sort of aggression her. I wanted to come down to Florida myself to see this first hand and I am very disturbed by what I found."

Sister Helen Prejean, CSJ who has worked previously with the events organizers is working on a new book "Live women sleeping." She said "We must work to end the death penalty by euthanasia. A sign of hope is the increasing recognition that the dignity of human life must never be taken away, even in the case of someone who can not fully react. We urge all people of good will, particularly Catholics, to work to end euthanasia…We ask pastors to preach and teachers to teach about respect for all life and about the need to end euthanasia…We must commit ourselves to a persistent and principled witness against euthanasia, against a culture of death, and for the Gospel of life.”

President Kim Gandy of the National Organization for Women was also on hand. "This case really upsets me that a man is making a choice over a women's body. This is Terri's body and her decision to make. If she chooses to live she should not be preventing from living. Her husband and Judge Greer as men can not make this decision for her. Will this judicial onslaught and efforts from her husband return us to the days of back-alley hospices that won't be safe for those with severe injuries? We must continue to fight for this women and other women's right to choose!"

Three catholic sisters of the Order of Preachers (Dominicans) Congregation of the Sacred Hearts in Grand Rapids, Michigan stage a protest by running into the hospice. They poured the blood they were carrying into the shape of six crosses on the door of the room containing Terri and sang songs and hymns before security personnel appeared. Their attorney has argued that the nuns' actions were not only legal, but also morally imperative.

Around the event are a group of merchandisers selling T-shirts with the message "Free Terri." One seller who converted his operation from selling "Free Mumia" shirts said "They are selling like hotcakes and I have seen many celebrities sporting them and they are selling twice as fast as my ones with Che on them." Silly question: Is this a joke, or a serious news story? I suspect the first, but I'd be delighted if the second.

Respectfully,

Brian P.

Ouch.

You have nailed them again, Jeff.

LOL! Jeesh Jeff, I'm afraid a lot of people are going to believe this crap you pull -- but, boy, why shouldn't they? I mean, come on, where the heck are all the anti-death penalty people anyway? A woman is about to be condemned to death, but because she can't speak for some reason the "stars" (and every other staunch "anti-death penalty" liberal I know) have abandoned her. How kind of them. Let's only fight for the lives of those we think are worthy, forget all those other people who are inconsequential to my agenda.

Growl.

Mmmm yes. The only people whom Susan Sarandon seems to want to save from death row are criminals. Interesting little light into the liberal mind that they don't do this to try to save innocents.

LOL. I'm curious to know if Martin Sheen, Bishop Gumbleton and the IHM Sisters were there.

Okay, I have to admit you had me going until the part about the Dominican sisters. : )

You had me until Roto Reuters.

Worthy of Jonathan Swift. Could be titled, "The Silence of the Hams!"

Thanks!

You had me going until the part where the NOW spokesman actually came up with an argument in defense of someones life.

If only this were true!!

Funnier than the Onion...

You got my boy. Son #4 told me that he never thought he'd agree with Susan Sarandon, but he had to respect her for her defense of Mrs. Schiavo. I was hoping the spoof would get enough circulation to compel Sarandon & Co. to deny it.

I knew something was strange about susan sarandon, tim robbins, and sean penn...speaking out for the rights of the innocent.

Yes the Greek Captcha is a joke
