Blessed John Henry Cardinal Newman?
Vatican City, Apr 23, 2008 / 03:12 am (CNA).- The Vatican has approved the beatification of Cardinal John Henry Newman, the English convert and theologian who has had immense influence upon English-speaking Catholicism, the Birmingham Mail reports.
I really hope this time the reports are true and that he is indeed beatified later this year.

It is therefore with a great deal of hesitation that I find myself impelled to offer a correction to something you have stated in relation to the crypto apostate, Fr Reese SJ.

That simply is not true. Every diocesan bishop has his court to deal with matters legal. The Bishop of Rome, having universal jurisdiction, has a court, or, rather, courts exercising both local and universal Jurisdiction.
The Pope's local jurisdiction is entrusted to his Cardinal Vicar for the Diocese of Rome, currently Cardinal Ruini.
The Pope's universal jurisdiction is entrusted to three tribunals: the Major Penitentiary,the Apostolic Signatura (the Court of the Apostle's Seal), and the Sacred Roman Rota.
The Major Penitentiary's concern is the internal forum and the Rota deals mainly, though not exclusively, with marriage annulments. The Apostolic Signatura acts as the universal court of final appeal available to the Universal Church.
