Looks like Gumby got a job

Out of charity, I wanted to imagine that they were going for a "palm" effect. But then I saw what they placed on the altar... and under the altar. All that's missing are the fridge magnets and chip clips...

Everything looks so fly-by-night--including the structure/tent in which they are worshipping. Dare we to hope that this Mass was impromptu and they did the best they could with what they had on hand? Although I confess, the Gumby-green cross does make that hypothesis quite implausible.

Once upon a time I was in the National Guard.
I recall a fine Mass celibrated on the hood of a jeep in an open field.
Wish people would quit being "relevant", "current" and "inclusive".

Personally, as a 20-year-old who has been actively involved in youth ministry for more than seven years, when I see that photo, I lean towards that being a Mass during a retreat or something like that, out where there is no other place for Mass, and where you're most likely to find a cross painted green.

Can we try not to jump to negative conclusions? I could be wrong, but I like to hope that I'm not in this case. And I don't think that's a hope that's too unfounded.

Except why would a retreat be held 'out where there is no other place for Mass?' There are retreat centers surrounded by beautiful woods, parish halls, Catholic schools, monasteries with areas designated for lay retreats... all fine places for retreats that have chapels attached.
