You got to be kidding me
Faithful Rebel points to what he calls perhaps the Ugliest Catholic Church in History- “Peter and Paul” Catholic Church in Maassluis, Holland.

For me it doesn't strike me enough to elicit ugly, but it certainly doesn't raise my mind up to God other than the phrase god-awful. It looks more like a discarded should be joint from some gigantic robot. Maybe it is a transformer church.
Transformers churches
More than meets the eye
Transformers churches
Churches in Disguise
Though looking at the Transformers theme I didn't realize how filled with the Gospel it was.
To stand divided we will surely fall
Until our darkest hour
When the light will save us all
This page shows the construction and the interior. Some of the statues inside are quite nice. Others leave something to be desired.

Something about the proportions of this crucifix seem off to me. Maybe it is the people standing next to me, but I associate alien with it and that one of Jesus's last words was "Phone home."
Though nothing prepared me for what is probably the most unfortunate statue in history to reside in a Catholic Church. In addition the eyes really creep me out.

Quite as unfortunate as this stained glass window.
Posted by Jeff Miller at April 28, 2007 2:02 PM | TrackBackOuch. That stained glass window is so bad, how could it have been done by accident? The artist was probably giggling the whole time he was working on it.
We have a "statue" carved from wood by a former priest of our parish. It has that "priest blessing a kneeling figure a little too closely" theme too. It has worked it's way into the "youth room" for now, but I would like to pitch it in the bonfire. I think people don't like it much but everyone is afraid to say anything because the priest who carved it was very well-liked and probably they also don't want to look like they are pervs for even noticing what I've noticed.
Posted by laura email at April 28, 2007 4:12 PMIt looks like something out of the "Dune" science fiction novels.
Posted by Ray from MN email at April 28, 2007 4:46 PMI'm afraid that church reminds me of nothing so much as a concrete caterpillar crawling through sand.
But that's just me…
Peace,

I still say that it looks like a weird insect that someone stepped on.
Posted by James email at April 28, 2007 5:00 PMI was actually in that church. Hans Solo was the presider and Chubbacca gave a very loud homily.
Posted by Dim Bulb email at April 28, 2007 5:32 PMI'm throwing up right now........ Ok done, that is just plain wrong. It is just do clear that the Devil has a stranglehold on Europe. That "church" reminds me of something from Starship Troopers.
Posted by Jeff Paveglio email at April 28, 2007 6:47 PMSome of the greatest church buildings in the world to draw on, and some yahoo comes up with this?
Looks like the cardboard box in LA is about to be displaced in the realm of ugly churches.
This one reminds me of those Reaver units in StarCraft.
Posted by JonathanR. email at April 28, 2007 7:39 PMClearly it is time to revisit the drug laws in Holland.
Posted by StubbleSpark email at April 28, 2007 8:13 PMSorry for the grossness here, but ... it looks like a robot face down with a rectal thermometer.
Posted by PMcGrath email at April 28, 2007 8:37 PMI've been to the grounds of the Sydney Opera House, Ed, and this church hardly compares at all.
Posted by Ray from Manila email at April 29, 2007 1:41 AMOh, Lord!
Diana is wrong. That stained glass window is so bad it COULDN'T possibly have been done on purpose. Even the Devil himself wouldn't have expected to get away with it.
Posted by Jeff email at April 29, 2007 2:18 AMI agree with Ray. The church reminded me of the worm from Dune.
Posted by araceli email at April 29, 2007 10:34 AMThat church looks like it should be swallowing Harkonnens on Arrakis or something.
Posted by Suaso! email at April 29, 2007 2:54 PMI call a moratorium on Dune comparison. I happen to be a great fan of Frank Herbert's Dune novels (and the prequels written by his son and another writer) and I would assure you that if such a monstrosity like this was built on Arrakis that surely someone would use a stone burner to smite it.
Posted by Jeff Miller email at April 29, 2007 3:00 PMI visited the 'church'construction website and decided that it reminds of when the local Y puts the pool cover on in the winter. The tarp being pulled tightly over the structure/frames also reminded my of a huge warehouse after a tornado has done horrible damage. And the construction guys and parishioners look like they're doing the cleanup after the destruction. Horrid!
No wonder the Blessed Mother statue in Orlando is shedding tears.
That statue sort of reminds me of the Buddy Christ!! Creepy
Posted by Bryan McKenzie email at April 29, 2007 9:09 PMThere's still a Catholic Church in Holland...? Who knew?!
Fr. Philip
Posted by PNP, OP email at April 30, 2007 12:03 AMWhat can I say? The church building looks like something that fell over and broke; the statue would give anyone the squirming ab-dabs. Whose brilliant idea was this?
Posted by Panda Rosa email at April 30, 2007 12:50 AMThe cosmic egg has broken, and the yolk is about to run out all over us.
Posted by The Sheepcat email at April 30, 2007 1:29 AMThe statues are okay, except for that one. The Church looked like a whitewashed surfboard broken in half. Just who is that bishop supposed to be? If that is a Saint, I really feel sorry that that saint got a scary statue like that (other Saints might have gotten worse than thatthough)
Posted by patrick email at April 30, 2007 11:25 AMnope. this church had to have been conceived after someone accidentally saw the contents of my tupperware bin!
Posted by freddy email at April 30, 2007 3:24 PMEdPie, no, you are not the only one to see the Sydney Opera House. I (living in Sydney) saw it before you did! The interior there is more pleasing to the eye than the Dutch church even without the cross and statues.
Posted by MaryW email at April 30, 2007 5:41 PMLooks like a overweight caterpillar.
There's no beauty anymore.....
Posted by irishgirl email at May 1, 2007 11:43 AM"It looks more like a discarded should be joint from some gigantic robot. Maybe it is a transformer church."
It looks like a cybermat to me.
Posted by Funky Dung email at May 3, 2007 10:54 PMIt's actually "Andrew, Peter and Paul" Catholic Church.
Posted by Angela email at May 4, 2007 11:09 PMMaybe that statue really just wants *out* of the church. Or, he could be giving that stained glass the Look of Death...oh, good *Lord*.
