Divine Rhythm Society

Check out the "Divine Rhythm Society" (DRS) of San Francisco's Episcopal Church of St. John the Evangelist, which holds "All Night Dance Celebrations" (ANDCs) in the church proper, at which some are reported to use "entheogens" (drugs used to enhance religious experience).

And if that's hard to believe, documents obtained by The Christian Challenge also suggest that the use of entheogens has been backed by both St. John's gay rector, Kevin Pearson, and gay retired Episcopal "bishop in residence," Otis Charles--who is said to have admitted trying entheogens himself.

The religious raves may be on limited-time offer, however. Conflict over the DRS*, which has been part of St. John's* since 1996, finally broke out in the liberal parish last year--after one reveler suffered (but fortunately survived) an overdose of the illegal "date rape" drug (GHB) last June. Here is some info on DRS

"Divine Rhythm Society" (DRS). The DRS says that it has two purposes: "First, we create space for direct, experiential forms of spiritual practice. Recognizing that divine rhythm is everywhere, the Rhythm Society celebrates spirit through music, dance, meditation, and play.

Second, we cultivate community in which we can play out the daily life implications of insights gained from primary religious experience.

We are One in the Dance!"
Kali, Your vengeance Is such sweet sorrow You shatter all illusion
Mother Earth
You provide and destroy
Your majesty shines bright In this Milky Way.
Sophia
Please protect the children
Sanctify our knowing
With love comes wisdom.
Mother Mary
Be with us now
And at the hour of our death
Amen

I wonder if their Christmas program had "Angels we have heard are high?"
